DC Recap

After a great 4th in Pittsburgh, we woke up excited to head to our nation's capital.  We all three had been there before but still wanted to go check out some of the sites. D.C. is huge with a lot of area to cover when in the city. Luckily, they have a subway system. We checked into our hotel, and we headed to the subway. We all our fans of underground travel, for we do not have to drive in city traffic. We traveled 20 min to downtown D.C.

Once off the rail, we headed to the Capitol and took a couple off pictures there. The Capitol is always a cool place to visit. We then headed over to the Washington Monument and took several photos there and of what I like to call Forrest Gump Fountain. We wanted to go to the White House, but it was game time.

We headed to National's Park, and it was a really nice stadium. The Nats obviously adopted the red ,white, and blue colors for their stadium which gave it a very Nationalistic feel. Like Pittsburgh, the Nationals are finally having a winning season, so there were lots of fans at the game. We again had really good seats, first base line near the foul pole. The temperature was much nicer, and we were pumped to see the Nats play the Giants. It was throw back day, so both teams were wearing really old Jerseys from the early 1900's. The Giants wore the old NY Giants uniforms and the Nats wore the old Washington Senators uniforms. The game itself was very entertaining. We got to see the new rookie sensation Bryce Harper for the Nats play as well as Giants big hitter Pablo Sandoval known as Kung Foo Panda.

Okay… Collin’s sidenote time: If there is one thing that I have admired about Josh since the day that I met him, it is his ability to get along with and attract good-looking girls. I don’t know what it is about him, personally, I think he’s a little goofy looking (just kidding bro).. But the point is Josh can be quite the ladie’s man when he wants to be.  On this day, it worked to his disadvantage.  Everyone realizes that once you get out of college, and even in college, it is okay and more socially acceptable to date/be with a girl who is a little bit younger than you.  A LITTLE BIT, JOSH! There was this cute little girl (little as in 6 years old, cute as in pigtail and cotton candy cute) sitting in front of us at the game.  I had noticed her taking a few glances behind her where we three were sitting during the beginning of the game, we were enjoying the game and naturally we are pretty hilarious and good looking.  But then it got weird.  This girl would not take her eyes off Josh.  She just kept staring.  And staring.  And smiling.  At one point I think she might have winked at him.  The best part about this whole thing (besides Josh’s horrified and slightly awkward laughs throughout the entire encounter) was that she told her mom (poor lady) that she thought Josh was “sexy”.  Her mom then told us that she was flirting with Josh and that she does it all the time and talks about boys with their shirts off (she’s 6!).  Needless to say, we were all happy when the family left after the 7th inning (I think it had something to do with Josh putting his sunglasses on to avoid any further eye contact).  Then we got to watch the game unfold in peace. But I will say one thing: good luck, Mom, she’s going to be a handful.

Back to Josh: Sidenote: that little girl was really creepy.  Anyways, the game was 5-4 in Giants favor headed to the bottom of the 9th. Bryce Harper came up with men on 1st and 2nd and got a base hit to score the tying run. Then Zimmerman came up and hit into what seemed to be an inning ending double play but the second baseman threw the ball into the dirt and the first baseman couldn’t make the scoop, so the runner from second advancing to third got to go home and the Nats walked off. Second time we saw an error lead to a walk off win. The fans were going nuts! It was really cool. After the game, we didn't want to really walk around DC at night so we headed back to the subway and it took us two hrs to get back to hotel. We were exhausted so we wrote some blogs and headed off to sleep in preparation for our next great city, Philly, home of the cheesesteak!!

Sorry our blogs have been so spaced out lately. We have been extremely busy with travel and just have not had that much time! In the next day or two, the Philly/NYC (Pt 1)/First few days of Boston blogs will be up and ready to go! Enjoy!

It was such a deceiving walk. Didn't look far away but it was a good 15-20 minute walk

The stadium was beautiful and actually full because the Nats are good this year

Every stadium has a big ole scoreboard these days (except Wrigley)

The HAIRIEST arms we had ever seen

President's Race (poor Teddy has never won... the one stumbling who doesn't know)

I think George Washington won if I remember correctly?

Everything is fairly close to each other

Had to put his shades on to keep his mind off the little girl that stared at him the entire game
