Detroit Recap

July 2

In Texas I have always heard only bad things about Detroit besides Eminem of course, but I must say that we had more fun in Detroit than any place we have gone so far. We rolled up to our hotel and thanks to Turner, we had a suite! It was huge and very nice, so we immediately were even more happy to be in Detroit.  We dropped off our stuff and headed to the game.

On the way we stopped at Griswalds Pharmacy to pick up some essentials. As we were walking out the door a man tried to sell us some drugs right on the street around 5 o'clock. We of coursed declined his offer. We were beginning to think all the things we have heard about Detroit were true. We walked about 5 blocks to the stadium which was awesome. They had a ton of statues of tigers and just the look of the stadium was really cool. It was Alex Avila floppy hat day, and we got in just in time to get some. I must say we all looked pretty sexy in our floppy hats.....well as sexy as you can be when wearing a floppy hat. Inside was a carousel and a food court that was very unique. It was setup like a mall food court. Our seats were 1st deck of left field. We were watching batting practice, and I (Josh) was oh so close to getting a ball but no dice. We met some really nice people sitting behind us. They asked us lots of questions about our trip. The game itself was very entertaining ending in a 6-4 Minnesota Twins win.

After the game we decided to go to a local pub Detroit Beer Company that the people behind us at the game recommended. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with sarcasm from the cute bartender...needless to say I knew we had found the pub for us. We sat down and ordered a drink and started talking to the bartender who we called Detroit and a regular at the bar named Daniel. Daniel gave me his life spiel which was funny and kinda sad in parts. He was super nice and even gave us 3 free Growlers, which were these huge jugs you can buy that hold 5 beers and you can take it home and bring it back to refill it at a cheaper price. They are a great Detroit souvenir. We joked with Detroit (her name was actually Lauren) all night and she ended up only charging us 12 dollars for all three of our tabs....we tipped her very well.

Detroit Beer Company closes at 12, so Detroit and Daniel asked if we wanted to go out to another bar with them and some friends. We of course said yes which was a great decision. The bar was called The Well and this is where my story goes one way and Collin and Nate Daddy's goes another. I will write mine and then hand it over to them for theirs. The
people we were with knew the bartenders there so again everything was basically free so we had a great time hanging out with all our new Detroit friends. Lauren and I sat outside and talked for a long time with her being really sarcastic and funny. We also spoke to this one guy who's son is going to college in Texas to play golf. We got in to a great discussion and for the second time in one night I got a life story lol. While I was chatting it up with the locals outside Collin and Nate were doing their thing inside and this is where I leave this post. I will say Detroit based on one nights experiences is a lot more fun than we thought it would be. The locals were awesome and hooked us up. I would love to go back sometime.

Collin here - so when we got to the well, Josh headed outside with Lauren and Nate Daddy and I stayed inside. Like Josh said the bar was a ton of fun because we were getting free shots from the bartender and just hanging out with locals and having a great time. Then we met Steve. Steve was badass, let me tell you. This dude was like 6' 4" and a little hammered but he was super nice. We got to talking about our trip and he loved our idea. Turns out he drives rickshaws around in different cities every summer and he just so happened to land in Detroit. We started playing a game of darts called cricket and I got my ass kicked.. Steve had played a few rounds of darts in his life. In the middle of our game this dude named Terrance came up and talked to his buddy Steve. Nathan and I introduced ourselves and got to talking with Terrance, who is also a cool dude. We were feeling generous because of the cheap drinks so we bought him a couple of beers. We asked him what he did for a living and he is an aspiring Detroit artist (probably around our age), so naturally I asked if he could freestyle. He said yes and I said me too. He probably thought I was some scrub white kid who thinks he can rap. I'm no Eminem, but I can spit a couple good rhymes here and there so I told him after a couple more beers we'd have a freestyling sesh. Terrance was good. Real good. We had such a blast. I even included Rosa Parks in one of my raps because he was wearing a Rosa Parks shirt.. He loved it. Then we paid our tabs at the bar, and said goodbye to all of our new friends. The people that we were there with originally (Detroit and other people that worked at the first bar) walked us a couple blocks to the safe part of town where we could take a cab back to the hotel. Nate daddy stepped up and bought us a cab and then we went back to the hotel room and went down hard, we were exhausted. Overall, Detroit was such a blast and we met some awesome people! It is definitely an experience we will remember forever.

Wouldn't you know it we took some stupid car pictures on this leg of the tour. The whole car ride to Detroit was ridiculous. We all had so much energy because of the sleep we got in Milwaukee the night before.

We are a little behind on the blogs because we are having so much fun. We will post them as soon as we can from the other legs of the tour. But enjoy!

I don't think Josh has ever had his shirt on when being in the back seat

Good thing he is focused on the road

Awkward car pic #1

Most awkward car pic ever

Being in the passenger seat has its boring moments

So many large tigers in front of the stadium

Comerica Park was so tight and completely different than any other

I feel like this is a scene from Aladdin when they go into the large tiger head

The classic Gig Em

We are pretty big guys but nothing compared to the tiger

Probably the best picture I (Nathan) have ever taken.  So tight

Nodding Donkey picture

The Detroit skyline

A much smaller tiger while we are wearing our Floppy Hat souvenirs

A carousel in a ballpark?????

America Detroit style

Under the armpit pic

Awkward side hug....

The view from our seats in Detroit

In that grassy area, water would shoot out everywhere and all the mist would hit everybody. Felt like heaven.

All the teams have massive scoreboards

We happened to be right behind the bullpen

A view overlooking the stadium

The mileage either right before leaving to Detroit or right when leaving it. Either way, a lot of mileage
